Writers' Resources
Here are the best books on writing that I know:
Writing Down the Bones by Natalie Goldberg
Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott
The First Five Pages by Noah Lukeman
Writing the Breakout Novel by Donald Maas
If you know of other great books on writing, please email me!
Here are some of the best online writing resources I know:
Critters Workshop-- A free critique group online, specializing in fantasy, science fiction, and horror. This is one of very few places where you can submit a whole novel for critique. I have sent several stories through that went on to publication.
www.critters.org
Hatrack River Writers Workshop-- An online forum for critiquing the first 13 lines of your story or novel. This critical opening or "hook" has to be good, or most editors may stop reading. The website is free and provides very quick feedback.

Preditors and Editors-- a great resource for markets, writing tips, agent listings, contests, workshops, and warnings to protect you from scams. Highly recommended.

Writers and Illustrators of the Future-- this is the biggest contest in the realm of fantasy and science fiction. Many great writers have gotten their start here.

PARSEC SF and Fantasy Short Story Contest-- This is a great, smaller contest that has the invaluable benefit of sending actual feedback on your entry. If you are just breaking into the field, I strongly encourage you to give this one a shot next year.

Musings of an Aussie Writer-- This is the blog of a good friend and horror writer Brenton Tomlinson. His site is full of writing articles, contest links, and good advice.
